October 27, 2009 Email discussion about the Future of FCAAHP as a nonprofit organization and Cora Foley drafted proposed bylaws for discussion at the Double Twelve (12/12) planned FCAAHP Christmas Family Potluck Lunch at Pohick Library.  Upgrade to a 501(c)(3) nonprofit status for FCAAHP would mean the ability to apply for grants to support the Fairfax County Multicultural Museum idea, particularly since the Fairfax History Museum concept has been "suspended."

October 24, 2009 (Saturday) 12noon - 5pm FCAAHP Potluck Lunch Meeting with the Literary Club program of two authors, Ruth Baja Williams and Veronica Li discussing their books.  The draft FCAAHP book was presented and discussed.   Ted Gong discussed the Census 2010 meetings as part of the Citizenship Club and Hank Chao discussed the Library of Congress "Unsung Heroes" program on 10/26 at the Smithsonian Institution.

July 25, 2009 (Saturday) 3pm - FCAAHP Genealogy Club Meeting with Suzanne Levy of the Virginia Room to discuss resources available for genealogical research in the Fairfax County Public Library System.  Roberta Chew and Ted Gong are leading the Genealogy Club of the Fairfax County Asian American History Project.  The meeting was held in room 103 of the Fairfax City Regional Library, 10360 North Street, Fairfax, VA 22030.

 June 27, 2009 (Saturday) 3pm - FCAAHP Meeting at the Pohick Library on Chinese American Life and Songs with Kathy Gong Greene who sang several songs about the history of Chinese American Life.   Ted Gong discussed the 1882 Chinese Exclusion Act and US immigration history.

 June 22, 2009 (Monday) 9:30 am -- Recognition Ceremony by the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors of the FCAAHP Task Force for the May 29, 2009 naturalization ceremony

and recognition of Terry Sam, FCAAHP official photographer.  The ceremony was followed by a fellowship reception at the cafeteria.

June 20, 2009 (Saturday) 3pm -- FCAAHP Meeting at the Pohick Library on Japanese American Life and Songs in Hawaii with Dr. Franklin Odo, Director of the Smithsonian Asian and Pacific American Programs, along with poetry readings of the citizenship poems written by Yearn Hong Choi and Vijaya Ligade written for the FCAAHP-initiated first-ever naturalization ceremony in the Fairfax County Government Center on Friday, May 29, 2009.

May 29, 2009 --  FCAAHP - initiated FIRST-EVER Naturalization ceremony at the Fairfax County Government Center (from 11am - 1pm) for 75 new American citizens -- cosponsored by USCIS, Fairfax County, FCAAHP, and Cox Communications. Before official start of program, FCAAHP photos by Terry Sam will be shown followed by USCIS video "Welcome to America." Formal program - Cora Foley as moderator, presentation of colors by the Fairfax County Public Safety Honor Guard (with Asian American members); National Anthem by Captain Frances Mensah of the Fairfax Fire and Rescue Department (Tonia Thornton, daughter of a new American, sang the anthem); welcome remarks by Kathryn Falk, VP for Government and Public Affairs at Cox Communications;  Keynote Speech by Chairman Sharon Bulova; Remarks by General (retired) Antonio Taguba, Filipino American 2007 Outstanding American by Choice Awardee; Presentation of Candidates and Countries of Origin by Ted H. Kim, USCIS Field District Manager; Citizenship Oath by Sarah Taylor, USCIS District Director; Congratulatory Remarks and Pledge of Allegiance by Congressman Gerry Connolly; and Presentation of Certificates to New Americans by Ted H. Kim.  Video "Proud to be American" will end program.   Reception will be held at the Forum sponsored by Cox Communications - Poem by Yearn Hong Choi, Patriotic Songs by Fairfax Carolers, and Poem by Vijaye Ligade.
May 21, 2009 -- FCAAHP Presentation at the Lunch N' Life Program of the Shepherd's Center held at St. Mary of Sorrows Catholic Church with Chairman Sharon Bulova, Terry Sam, Cora Foley.
May 13, 2009 -- FCAAHP submitted a grant proposal for USCIS $100k Citizenship grant that was drafted by Cora Foley for the Fairfax Asian American Citizenship Education (FAACE) Partnership with Korean Central Senior Center, Silver Light Seniors Association (Chinese American) and the Vietnamese American Voters Association.

October 18, 2008 - Cora Foley displayed FCAAHP information at annual Merrifield Festival.
October 17, 2008 - Cora Foley interviewed Fairfax County Filipino American Firefighters.
October 14, 2008 - Jaya Kori began design of the FCAAHP Indian American Website.
October 12, 2008 FCAAHP Meeting on Film Production for May 2009 Asian American Heritage Month:    Hank Chao, Terry Sam, Judy Wilson and Cora Foley met to discuss the film production for the Fairfax County Asian American History Project (FCAAHP) to be shown in May 2009.  It will be the first cut and will be further developed as FCAAHP continues to work toward the deadline of 2010 for the first FCAAHP book.  Terry Sam's FCAAHP photos are listed in this page along with the storyboard for the FCAAHP film. 
August 15, 2008 Fairfax Police and Firefighter Presentations to Asian American Students.
On August 15, 2008, Lieutenant Gun Lee and Firefighter Hyun Lee of Fairfax County Police and Fire Departments provided mentoring presentations to Asian American high school students in Fairfax County.  Videos were made of the mentoring presentations for FCAAHP.
August 14, 2008 FCAAHP Visit to Silverlight Chinese American Seniors Association.  On August 14, 2008, Ted Gong, Terry Sam, Cora Foley, and Soo Yee visited with the Silver Light Chinese American Seniors Association in Herndon Senior Center, Fairfax County, Virginia.  Videos of Silver Light activities and interviews of members were made by FCAAHP.
August 9, 2008 Reston Asian Festival.  On August 9-10, 2008, the Thai Tennis Association sponsored the 5th annual Reston Asian Festival, the largest Asian Festival in Northern Virginia.  FCAAHP members participated in the festival and several videos were made.
August 4, 2008 Recognition of Vy Nguyen by Fairfax County Board of Supervisors.  On Monday, August 4, 2008, Vy Nguyen was recognized by the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors for her outstanding work with the Fairfax County Asian American History Project.  Interviews were conducted during the meeting after the Recognition Ceremony. 
FCAAHP members met on Sunday, August 3, 2008, from 12 noon to 5:30 p.m. at Pohick Library to participate in a discussion of Chinese Historical Research in the West by Dale Hom.  Interviews were conducted and the 1882 Exhibit was displayed.
July 16, 2008 FCAAHP Meeting at Braddock Hall/Supervisor Bulova's office introduced Jaya Kori, the FCAAHP Indian American Team Leader, and Masako Huibregtse, the Japanese American Team Leader.  Ted Gong showed a DHS video welcoming new American citizens.  Terry Sam showed a powerpoint presentation on his Chinese American family.  Sharon Bulova announced the August 4th recognition of Vy Nguyen for her FCAAHP work by the Board of Supervisors that will be followed by a family get-together at the Fairfax County Government Center.  Cora Foley did an oral history interview with Raj and Jaya Kori, Swati Damle that included video snippets accessible in the webpage. Francine Uenuma of the Washington Post participated in the meeting and 7/14 interview.
July 3, 2008 FCAAHP Meeting organized by Soo Yee with Korean American High School students. Vy Nguyen demonstrated the Vietnamese American History Project website and explained how the project fit into her coursework at Flint Hill High School. Videos were made of Soo Yee discussing her nonprofit group to assist Korean Americans:

May 31, 2008 FCAAHP Meeting at Pohick Regional Library to discuss with Veronica Salcedo, President of Filipino American National Historical Society of Hampton Roads (FANHS-HR), the lessons learned from the FANHS-HR books on Virginia's Filipino American Soldiers entitled "In Our Uncles' Words: We Fought For Freedom" and "In Our Aunties' Words" on Hampton Roads Filipino American Women.  Hank Chao videotaped more oral history interviews, including members of the Korean Senior Center.

May 14, 2008 FCAAHP Potluck Dinner to celebrate Asian American Heritage Month in Kings Park Library.  The FCAAHP website was demonstrated as well as the Fairfax County Vietnamese American website created by Vy Nguyen for the project.  Mary Lipsey demonstrated oral history interview techniques while Hank Chao videotaped FCAAHP members for the FCAAHP promotional documentary.  On May 15, 2008, Supervisor Sharon Bulova spoke to the AAUW members to promote FCAAHP.

April 19, 2008 Briefing at the US Department of Homeland Security
by Senior Historian Marian Smith followed by lunch at Hank Chao's Chinatown Garden Restaurant in a restaurant built in 1852 and where DC's Chinatown started.  Video tapings of team members for a documentary to promote FCAAHP were directed by Hank Chao.
